Poppets 5

ready to hang, edges painted black The Poppets paintings explore the strange creatures and spirits of folklore and mythology, dreaming up new possibilities. Fairy tales and folkways throughout the world feature creatures, ghosts, monsters, spirits, fairies, many of them mixing human, animal, bird, imaginary beast, gods, and extraterrestrials into hybrids. Masks and dolls and talismans and puppets are born from these imaginings. Some are cute and some are scary and many are both, from giants to wee sprites, from leprechauns to restless spirits. These paintings explore multicultural folklore through my own invented manifestations of those who cross between our world and the others.
